ASD Safe Swim:

Several years ago, Hawaii Autism Foundation began offering swim lessons to local children with autism. This program developed into a partnership with the University of Hawaii. Lesson programs run several times a year in different locations around Oahu. Please contact kellem@hawaii.edu for more info.

Fall 2024 Program Information:

This is an 8 session swim safety program for autistic individuals that meets once a week on Saturdays at the Hawaii Kroc Center in Kapolei. The first lesson will be the training for the  parent/guardian, family member, or RBT who will serve as the instructor (no children- just parents). Families choose one of the 30-minute lesson times listed and attend all 8 sessions. Lessons with instructors and children will begin in the second week. Age range to participate is 4 to adult.

Dates: October 19, 26; November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; Dec 7

Lesson Times: 1:30-2:00; 2:00-2:30; 2:30-3:00

Cost: $100 total for all 8 lessons. If there is more than one child with ASD, then $100 per child

Parent centered: Parent/Guardian, family member or RBT must serve as the swim instructor. Instructors are trained on week 1.
 
Registration: email Dr. Kelle Murphy at Kellem@hawaii.edu and provide: 1). time preference; 2) name of child and age; and 3) name of person who will be the instructor.
